Who We Are

Who We Are

We are a community of believers who are passionate about Jesus Christ. It has been our desire to create an environment where people can come as they are and experience the presence of God in a life-transforming way. Our church is filled with all kinds of people from every background and every generation. We believe that every person was created to know and to serve God, so we want to equip you to go higher, dig deeper and reach farther than you ever imagined you could.

Our name comes from the Greek word “ekklēsía” [εκκλησiα], which literally means a “gathering” of citizens, in an ancient Greek city-state, or a “called-out assembly”; usually defined as “gathering of the called-out ones”. Theologically it has been equated from the New Testament passages, originally written in Greek language, as the Church and also as the Body of Christ. We are, then, as the church, a gathering of called out ones for the purpose of worship and glorifying God.

We are associated with the Southern Baptist Convention and the Tennessee Baptist Convention. We are The Gathering, Chattanooga and are not affiliated with any other church that carries the name “The Gathering.”
